Press Release

Steve Elliot named MVP of Greater Association of Contingency Planners Greater Tampa Bay Chapter

Tampa, Fla., April 2011--Each year ACP Corporate provides the opportunity for all of the Chapters to recognize one individual within the Chapter who has gone above and beyond to assist the Chapter, ACP National and the disaster preparedness community and business continuity practices in general. Award recipients are recognized via the Most Valuable Player Award Program.

The process may be simple or complicated, depending on the desires of each Chapter. The requirements for nomination are few: a member in good standing of ACP, outstanding service and value have been provided to the Chapter, the local Board of Directors agree on the recipient. In Tampa, we chose an all encompassing process, soliciting the entire Chapter membership for nominations over a couple of months, then having the nominees reviewed and approved by the Greater Tampa Bay Chapter Board of Directors.

In our case, the choice was simple and unanimous! One person shone more brightly than all others in the 2010 year, our Chapter President, Steve Elliot!

Steve is currently the President of the Greater Tampa Bay ACP and has volunteered for many of the Board of Director positions over the past several years. With his leadership in 2010, membership nearly doubled, a sponsorship program was created that added three sponsors for our chapter, monthly educational programs were planned with themes of public/private sector collaboration, and the chapter's venue changed enhancing attendance. Steve's leadership and collaboration has created a board of directors that is a well functioning team.

Steve and his team have worked to have a CBCP course made available for chapter members, with potential funding through a State grant. Steve has also guided the board to create a disaster preparedness and business continuity education day for the public in the Tampa Bay area to increase local awareness. He has encouraged other board members in ways that improved the chapter' s ability to fund monthly meetings and keep the meetings first class, which contributed to membership growth. He inspired a “BCP-101” presentation that can be easily taught by any member and used to educate “first-timers” in the basics of business continuity and contingency planning.

Steve' s knowledge and experience in contingency planning has helped the chapter grow, encouraged participation in the board of directors and been the single most influential factor in the growth of the Tampa Bay ACP chapter. Thanks to Steve' s leadership, members and guests alike want to come back for more. Much of the success and growth of the chapter can be credited to Steve, his enthusiasm and his deep commitment to the mission of ACP.

Since all of that activity locally wasn' t enough for Steve, he has also joined the National Board of ACP in 2011 as the National Director of Programs, and is also serving on the National Administrative Services and Finance committees!

All of his accomplishments with ACP have been in addition to running his own successful business continuity and crisis management firm for the past 8 years as President and CEO, Elliot Consulting Group in Tampa, Florida.

Go Steve! Who knows where he will end up next!
